WILDERNESS FILM IMAGES RELEASES WILD GARDENS DOCUMENTARY TELEVISION SERIES

Lake Arrowhead, CA – February 20, 2009 – KVCR-TV, San Bernardino has just announced that it will be running Wild Gardens again starting March 4th, 2009. Ben Holland, Program Director, is looking at the possibility of broadcasting the show indefinitely. Mr. Holland mentioned that “the Nielson ratings have tripled in one 30 day cycle”. Kenn Couch, Station Manager at KVCR, says that Wild Gardens is the most premier show they have ever launched. Wild Gardens can be seen on KVCR-TV (Channel 24) on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 pm and again on Sunday afternoons at 12:30 pm. Wild Gardens is the creation of Martin Hale, noted naturalist and historian. Hale has had a keen interest in nature since childhood, and is considered something of an expert on the California wilderness.

The first three episodes feature the haunting beauty of the Anza-Borrego Desert, while capturing California’s Sonoran Desert wildflowers in full bloom. This thirteen-part series is an “incomparable tour of the natural beauty of California’s wildflowers. Breathtaking close-ups of individual wildflowers and panoramic views of the sky and mountains, combined with gentle descriptive narration and symphonic music, makes Wild Gardens a delight for the senses and a joy for nature enthusiasts. A wonderful opportunity to luxuriate in the beauty of nature, Wild Gardens is especially recommended for wildflower and natural scenery enthusiasts.” (MidWestBookReview.com)

Enhanced by state-of-the-art digital technology are close-ups of individual, exquisite wildflowers that fill the screen with an aura of rarely seen beauty, evoking a warm, gently-scented desert evening. The soundtrack, composed by Hale for each episode, is the perfect counterpoint to the startling beauty of the flowers and the passionate, but understated, narration.

Steve Boyd, Curator of the Herbarium at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, (a world-class facility) worked with Hale to confirm the botanical plant identifications and supply additional information on the featured plants. His comments affirm the power of this series to capture the hearts and minds of viewers: “By getting this amazing footage you bring additional life to a subject that sometimes may be overlooked; but with your close-up action photography, it brings a certain life that will be so apparent to the viewers. You make the flowers and the locations so accessible it will enhance the audience’s understanding of our natural environment.”

Hale has already begun production on subsequent episodes, including Joshua Tree, the Southern California chaparral, the West Mojave (including Red Rock), Death Valley, the East Mojave, and the San Bernardino, San Gabriel, and Santa Monica Mountains. The series will eventually encompass the entire state of California. The viewer will be mesmerized by the hidden beauty that is so lovingly revealed in this series. Hale’s passion for his subject is effortlessly communicated, leaving the viewer eagerly awaiting the next installment.
